ABOUT DALHOUSIE

The philosophy behind Dalhousie is simple: every aspect of the experience must be a treat. It's not enough to serve the best cakes, or the freshest coffee. It's about excellence of service, fresh flowers on the table, the comfort of a wood burning stove, the atmosphere. Dalhousie is a place to relax and let the world go by. You might like to know: our chocolates are hand made by a family business in Brighton using traditional copper pans; our Victoria Sponge is finished with Wilkin's Tiptree jam; our cakes are freshly homemade every day; our quiches are.....well, why not find out for yourself? We hope you'll drop by soon and share in our passion.

OUR SHOP

1 Westow Street is in the heart of Crystal Palace's bustling 'Triangle' of shops and restaurants. Our building dates back to the early 19th Century, and was once the dairy shop. Upstairs is cozy and relaxed with exposed original wide floorboards, Victorian brick and a wood burning stove. Inviting leather sofas encourage lazy Sunday mornings with a cup of artisan coffee and a slice of legendary Dalhousie Victoria Sponge. Downstairs the mood is elegant and sophisticated; marble counters and crystal chandeliers showcase the stars of the show: the cakes! Sit down, relax and let our charming baristas brew up your favourite coffee.

OUR CAKES & RECIPES

My family has always baked. I learnt my craft from my mother, and my grandmother. I've adapted these three generation recipes, and given them a twist here and there. Cake is for sharing, for treating, for special occasions and for the every day. I use local ingredients such as Marriage's flour, and free range eggs. I never take short cuts. I like to use my Canadian heritage and give it a British makeover, such as my Victoria Sponge with it's secret ingredient, or my traditional sweetbread with freshly grated coconut. I believe that baking should bring people together and I look forward to sharing my passion with you.

ABOUT DEREK

Canadian born and bred, I recently moved to London. I decided to follow my life’s passion and dream and open my first cake and coffee shop in the heart of Crystal Palace. I’m a foodie who appreciates global cuisine, and my favourite cocktail is a Negroni!

My latest challenges are converting all my recipes from cups to kilos and mastering the art of playing croquet !

I'm proud of every member of my team at Dalhousie. They share my vision of giving our customers simply the best cafe experience in Crystal Palace. It's my privilege to be working with them.
